I could probably sit down and write whole dissertations about why I love Ted and why he’s one of my favorite comic characters ever, but I actually kind of am doing that when I’m reviewing his 80s solo. In the artistic sense, though, I love how he’s shown to be two seemingly diametrically opposed things: Incredibly fleet-footed graceful and also a serious bruiser.
I love the sheer impression of density he’s given there. He’s fit, but you can just tell that if he lands a punch on your mouth, you will need some reconstructive dentistry. Even at his bulkiest, Booster never comes across as the absolute tank of an asskicker that Ted does, and I adore that because Ted doesn’t have a powersuit or a forcefield, he just has what he can do with his own flesh and bone.
And he does it well.
All these are really kind of meant to be Rebirth-era/Stardust!Ted, but since that version of him is based very strongly on his characterization in his 1986 book, you can venture he’s as classic in some ways as they come.

No guarantees on the next Fanart Friday as I start a new job Wednesday. But do feel free to hit me up if you want your art featured here! I’m happy to share the space.
